STEER strives to develop and offer innovative technological solutions to the most acute health challenges. Starting in March 2020, the platform offered free ride share for front line healthcare workers. In June 2020, the company developed its own smartphone-based application to facilitate contact tracing. Following the release of Apple and Google’s ENS for contact tracing, STEER pivoted towards privacy preserving wearable devices that do not require a smartphone. STEER partnered with the University of Waterloo to develop “TraceSCAN”, a contact tracing wearable technology designed to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
As a team, STEER wanted to tackle this issue that was being circulated not only in Canada, but worldwide. We thought contact tracing was the ultimate solution. We put together this device within a couple of months alongside the University of Waterloo, so that we could contact trace without comprising privacy, or having any personal information shared. We wanted to make sure this technology was easy to use, safe and most importantly cost efficient. As safety is our utmost top priority, we wanted to create a device that ensured the safety of not only the user but everyone who may have come within proximity of this individual. We as a company put this device together to save lives, keep businesses up and running and maintain the future of everyone, worldwide.
